Listen: Here comes the free full version of a novel from Europe, Germany, that is not just about bunkering! I would be delighted about your interest and cooperation!
The first-person narrator Mattis inherits a fortune worth millions after the mysterious suicide of his uncle Gustav (Gustl). He gives up his job, breaks up with his parents and retreats completely to Gustl's estate. In the sprawling villa, Mattis discovers strange things that increasingly obscure his previous image of his uncle. Bit by bit, Mattis tries to get closer to Gustl's eccentric double life, but without really being able to grasp it. When he finally falls into an amour fou with Gustl's childhood friend Beat, he threatens to turn into his uncle's alter ego for good. But with Beat's help, he is finally able to reveal a redemptive secret that Gustl has been very careful to keep. For good reason, as it turns out. At the same time, the world is on the brink of collapse due to a plague and natural disasters. With Beat's help, Mattis begins to convert the cellar of his villa into a shelter. In the supposedly protected isolation of his bunker, the narrator struggles to make sense of his existence and finds himself inescapably at the mercy of existential questions about love, sexual identity, loss and death.
In their desperate efforts to survive the impending dystopia, the characters ultimately prove to be our allies, whose hope for a happy ending we may share, even if it could prove deceptive. Bunkers paints a picture of the end times that, for all its drama, portrays the moral ice age and apocalypse panic of today's society in a tongue-in-cheek and deeply human way.
The author: Titus David Hamdorf, born in 1969, writer, biographer, art therapist, studied art therapy after a few semesters of German studies and philosophy and has worked in various social and clinical contexts. He lives with his wife in Berlin. The novel Spucke (2004) was his debut.
